Items I Need to Borrow

My sister and her family are coming to visit for Christmas. Does anyone have a baby swing that I could borrow? Also, if you have any super warm winter baby clothes (blanket sleepers, coat, etc.) size 3-6 months, I 'd love to borrow some too (the baby is a girl, but I'm sure she won't care if the clothes are for a boy, as long as they keep her warm). My sister's bringing her new baby and since they live in Houston, they don't really have clothes for going outside with her in Albuquerque winter temperatures.

Let me know.

Thanks,

Windy

Cannery Reminder

Just reminding you that tomorrow, Saturday the 5th, is our stake canning day at 8am. Fruit drink and spaghetti will be canned, for anyone who ordered some.

If you didn't order anything, you are still welcome to go and help out! The way it works is, everyone who shows up helps with the canning until all the product for our stake is canned. Then, you are free to purchase what you like. So, even if you didn't order something, there's usually extras available (as long as you don't want a ton), and there's always extra products leftover from past months. You pay at the cannery, and they accept cash (but only the exact amount), check, or debit/credit card.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

Pumpkin Cheesecake

Here you go Val....

Pumpkin Cheesecake

Crust:
  • 1 3/4 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 stick melted salted butter
Filling:
  • 3 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 (15-ounce) can pureed pumpkin
  • 3 eggs plus 1 egg yolk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
For crust:
In medium bowl, combine crumbs, sugar and cinnamon. Add melted butter. Press down flat into a 9-inch spring form pan. Set aside.

For filling:
Beat cream cheese until smooth. Add pumpkin puree, sour cream, sugar and the spices. Add flour and vanilla. Beat together until well combined, you don't want cream cheese lumps in your batter, make sure to scrape the bowl then beat. Repeat a few times. Add eggs last, do not overbeat. Overbeating the eggs will cause cracks in the cake.

Pour into crust. Spread out evenly and place oven for 50min to 1 hour.
Do not bake more than 1 hour, it will cause cracks.  I usually check the cheesecake around 50 minutes, its ok for the center of the cheesecake to jiggle at little. It will set up as it cools.  Turn oven off, and let cheesecake cool in oven for atleast a few hours. You want the cake to cool slowly to prevent cracking. If you do get a crack just top with cream!
Whip up 1 cup of whipping cream with 3 tablespoons of sugar. EnjoyJ

Free Pumpkin Patch

Some of you know about this already, but there's a great little pumpkin patch located just north of Target off of Coors and Irving. The best part about this pumpkin patch....it's totally FREE! (you do have to pay for you pumpkins, but they're not too expensive). It's called the Galloping Grace Youth Ranch Pumpkin Patch. Since it's free, I thought it might be pretty cheesy, but it's actually done up really nice! I was impressed.

Activities for kids include a corn maze, hay maze, mini tractor bikes, pumkin bowling, duck races, Mr. Pumpkin head (like Mr. Potato head), bean bag toss, ring toss, roping, dress the farmer, and a corn pit to play in, plus there are animals including ducks, chickens, turkeys, bunnies, goats, and sheep. Kids can ride horses on the weekends.

If you are looking to go to a pumpkin patch but don't want to make the drive all the way out to McCall's pumpkin patch, this is the place to go!

Super Saturday

Hi ladies! The Relief Society Activity Committee has begun to plan our Super Saturday activity that will be held on October 8th from 9:00am-12:00. Below are the crafts we have chosen, they are easy to assemble and cheap! I have ordered from this company before and have enjoyed their products. We will also have a sign-up sheet going around church for the next two weeks.

We are also planning on making Family Home Evening binders and Church Quiet Books for kids. We will display these items soon at church. We are hoping to do a little mini-class on cake decorating too.We realize not everyone enjoys doing crafts so come and enjoy a nice lunch at 11:30am.

You can either leave a comment on this post as to which craft you would like and how many, or you can sign up for it at church, or email me. Please make checks out to me and I will place one order. I will need the money by August 15th. Thanks!  Teri Stowe

Cannery Reminder

This is a reminder that our canning day is this Saturday, August 6, at 8am. We will be canning regular oats and black beans.

If you didn't place an order for these items, you are still welcome to go! Everyone helps can the product, which takes about an hour, then afterward you are welcome to purchase anything that is in the warehouse. There are always starter kits, bulk items, and single cans of various commodities leftover from previous months. Since I am new to building my food storage, I usually just buy 2 or 3 cans.

Please come! It will be a great time!

Dance Teacher? Summer Activities for Kids?

My daughter (age 4) took a little dance class from one of the Young Women in the Taylor Ranch ward and loved it! But the family is now moving out of state, and she won’t be teaching dance this summer after all.  I was hoping some of you might have suggestions for another dance teacher. She’s only 4 and at this point I’m not looking for precise technique or anything, just a little class she can have fun dancing in with some other little girls.

I thought some others of you may be looking for summer activities for your kids too, so I’m passing along this info a friend emailed me.  Some sisters in the Taylor Ranch ward are putting on a choir class this summer.  Here’s the info if anyone else might be interested in it as an additional summer activity for their kids!  I’ve left off the name and the address of the home where it will be held. You can email Jessi A. at her email address on the TR ward directory online for more info (or send me an email and I’ll send you her contact info).
"Nothin' but Treble!"Summer Choir ClassBoys and girls ages 4-10 years oldWednesday at 2pm-3pm at the (member’s home near the church)  Starting date:  Weds. June 8thRunning through mid-August with a final recital before school starts back up
The cost is: $30 a month (4 classes per month) or $50 a month for families with 2 children in the choir.  The class includes choir instruction and also rhythm, musical history and general music topic instruction.

Anyone else have any good ideas for summer activities for young kids?
Thanks! - Susan A.

Cannery Info

Hello Ladies!
Just a reminder that today is the last day to submit May cannery orders. Dry Milk is the only commodity being ordered this month. I know this isn't much notice, but I just wanted to help get this blog jump started!

For June I will be taking orders for regular oats and black beans. Also, this coming Saturday, June 4th, is our stake's canning day at 8am. We will be doing open group canning orders. Please try to arrive on time, and plan to be there for about an hour and a half. If you didn't place an order for open group canning back in April, you are still welcome to go help at the cannery! Then you are free to purchase anything you like that is present in the warehouse. It's always fun to go shopping!

If you have never been to the cannery before, do not fear! Someone will explain what to do, and it is a lot of fun! I personally have only been twice, but I have enjoyed it and it feels great to have started growing my personal food storage (which is still quite small right now) and working towards "preparing every needful thing."

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Let's Get Started!!

Hi Ladera Ward sisters! Welcome to our blog...we hope that you will all enjoy using it as a way to stay in better communication, and create a more unified and inclusive feeling in our ward. Since all of the ward boundary changes I think we are all struggling with trying to get to know each other and feel as one. It will take time, but we can do it day by day, visit by visit, Sunday by Sunday, activity by activity!! I know that I am trying to learn a new name or two each week...and match them to faces! I love the variety of women we have in our ward. There are so many different talents and personalities that can be enriching to us all.
A special thanks to Teri S. (remember, no last names!) for creating our blog. She is a wonderful woman that you ALL need to get to know!! She is oozing with talent, and we will all be the beneficiaries of that talent as she is our newly called Relief Society Meeting Coordinator. As she works with Emily R.(RS second counselor) and their committee, I'm sure we will be in for some enjoyable and informative activities.
As you can see, Teri has already added some great websites for us to visit that can help us in various aspects of our lives. Please feel free to give suggestions for others. This can be a great forum for us to share the things we know and learn. I look forward to seeing what you all have to contribute!
Val G.
